After having some problems with confusion about taking medication I needed something that would automatically regulate the pills being dispensed and this product has worked well.

It is quite easy to set up and has worked well . The only slight issue we have found is that it is possible for two pills to get stuck in the chute of the individual compartments , so care should be taken to make sure multiple pills do not bind side by side. The morning and evening doses are 5 or 6 pills and capsules each so if an improvement was to be made it would be to the compartment to prevent this happening.
Now we know about this issue I make sure to agitate the tray a few times a week and have not had the problem since.

Overall it solved quite a significant problem, regulating the access to the medication works really well.

The dispenser is pretty easy to set up and to understand the operation of the various functions; however, adding pulls to the slots by hand is a bit too tricky for my mother to do with arthritic hands. This could be addressed by the manufacturers by adding a tweezers or funnel shoot.

This is a brilliant idea, and when it works properly it’s great, but it can’t be trusted, which makes it useless.

I feared it was user error, but one time I was in the same room at pill time, and it just sat on the table, failing to move the pill tray on, but flashing and beeping anyway to indicate it was time to take the pills. As the pill tray hadn’t moved, there were no pills to take.

The instructions are mediocre, but once understood the unit makes sense.

Large pills get stuck. This can be solved by splitting or cutting the pills in half.

Certain standard sized capsules can get stuck. If they happen to sit perfectly straight across the pill chamber, and then roll down towards the tapered end, they jam. As they will sit in the machine for 7-28 days and be shaken 1-28 times before being taken, this isn’t as rare an occurrence as it sounds.

The unit arrived with flat batteries. A trivial problem, but annoying, given the price.

When it was working, my Mum got on well with it. The alarm is loud. You can set it to sound for up to five hours so it’s almost impossible to miss. It’s useful to be able to lock the lid to avoid accidents. It removes the worry of taking the right pills at the right time. Until it goes wrong, and then if there’s no one there to help, you’re stuffed.

It’s also unlikely a friend or neighbour who wasn’t familiar with the unit could be sure of putting it right or re-filling it, because it’s critical to put the tray in the right position and press the right button, otherwise the whole thing is out of sync. You can, for example, use the “four times a day” paper label, and set four alarms per day, but the unit doesn’t “know” which compartment is where, and relies on starting in the right place and moving on one place each time. Any mistakes on the part of the user (or the machine – which should be impossible, but I watched it do it!) and the pills are out of sync, and e.g. the morning pills will be delivered in the afternoon. A product designed to know which compartment was which would avoid this problem, but that’s not how this works.

This pill dispenser is expensive but worth every penny. We purchased it for an elderly lady with slight learning difficulties who was struggling with her medication (she ended up in hospital which is quite a common problem when the meds are taken incorrectly at the wrong times) . All she had to learn was how to tilt it when the alarm went off and she thinks its absolutely fab. She has meds three times a day and now she takes the correct dose at the correct time and this is vital to her well being. It’s quite straightforward to set up and once you know what you’re doing it’s easy. I see her once a week to fill it up and its a 10 minute job. It has solved a big problem and I would highly recommend.

I bought this for my elderly mum who has Alzheimer’s and is also very deaf.
So the idea of having the flashing and an alarm was perfect (she can hear the loudest setting).
However, I did find it pretty complicated to set up (and I’m not silly when it comes to tech stuff).
So…mission accomplished. I then gave my mum a few lessons on how it works and watched her do it a few times so that she could try and understand what she had to do.
Sadly, her Alzheimer’s was too far advanced ..so the idea is GET THIS PRODUCT BEFORE YOU THINK YOU NEED IT!
During trying to get her to understand I gave her timely phone call and prompts and talked her through it for the next couple of days.
However…when I went up to see her she had ‘hacked’ her way in to obtain pills as she thought she hadn’t taken them/or thought they were due.
Even with the prompts and the notes on the box and by her chair telling her when she should take them she still forgot and hacked her way in to take a further lot of pills.
Pivotell, kindly replaced the ‘hacked flap’ and off we went again, only to find that the next time she not only hacked the flap out but hacked the whole top open to obtain the pills inside. !!????????‍♀️
The problem with Alzheimer’s is not being able to retain the information or follow simple instructions.
I’m sure this will work brilliantly for most, but sadly not for my very determined, 92 year old bulldozer!
Back to the drawing board for us!
