To start with the positives, I very much like the packaging. Many years have passed since the only option was a tube of K-Y jelly, and yet pots of lube still often look like they belong in the bathroom rather than the bedroom. These OVIO products, with clean design and pastel colours, instead ask straightforwardly for a place alongside the other potions with a rightful place in the bedroom. The fruity aroma, though very mild, underlines the message that this is a product meant for pleasure.
Sadly, we’re less impressed with the lube itself. As it starts to dry out, it becomes sticky. (It’s a problem we’ve found with other lubes, but there are exceptions.) Possibly you won’t notice, especially if the lube is mixed with natural juices. Then again, the whole point is to compensate for a lack of natural juices.
It’s nice to know that the product is good for the planet, but what we need is a lube that is slippery. It’s a somewhat fundamental flaw if, instead, it becomes sticky.

We decided to call this ‘juicy lube’ because you get a burst of tropical fruit fragrance with each squirt and it’s a pleasant change from the starchy or chemical fragrance of many lubes. To be honest the fragrance is a bit artificial and not quite mouth-watering but it’s still a pleasant change. If you do taste it it’s not that nice, not terrible either but it doesn’t taste as good as it smells.
The lube itself is quite thick with a silicone-like feel and it lingers on the skin for a while and doesn’t just dry to nothing in minutes. It also contains Allantoin which is an anti-irritant and skin soothing ingredient and we’ve had no reaction to it. We found it left skin with a silicone-like sheen afterwards, rather than being sticky, but we’re not sure that’s any better than stickiness. Overall you can be quite sparing with it and that helps make it decent value for a quality product.

The “Tropical Personal Lubrication” from OVIO is a large bottle (200ml) of intimate lubrication that comes in a well-made and handy pump dispenser.
First off, let’s talk about the pump dispenser. Having this type of lube so easy to dispense, as in you can literally get some on the go using just one hand, whilst say your other hand is busy (say with your partner) is a game changer. It can seriously disrupt the mood if you have to unscrew the top from a tube or whatever. So, pump dispensing is definitely the way forward if you ask me.
Now…onto the luuuuube itself. Now we all know KY is the leading brand name in this discreet little field. KY has been around for as long as anyone can remember. How does this stuff compare? Well, it certainly does the job it’s required to do – and it’s pretty long-lasting to boot. Slapping on a couple of fingertipfuls is all you need for a bit of added slippery, slidey fun, without any unwanted friction cropping up a minute or two after application.
With this particular product (as opposed to the original one) you have some sweet tropical flavouring added into the lube, which does provide a particularly noticeable (but not overpowering) mango and sweetly tropical fragrance. The taste of the lube isn’t quite what either my partner or I expected. There’s a sweetness to it, and a kind of fake fruity flavouring, which isn’t altogether unpleasant but isn’t quite what we thought it would be, and to be honest, isn’t as fruity and tantalising (in a sexy way) as we hoped it would be. The flavour isn’t really for us…but it might be for others!
The consistency is just right. It’s thick enough for easy and simple application, without it running off everywhere, but liquid enough to be effective and spread around the desired area with ease. I’d say consistency-wise it’s on a par with KY.
All in all, my partner and I are reasonably happy with the product. It’s just the flavour of it isn’t quite as pleasant as we hoped.
