Update 12 November 2022: I have now replaced the filters in my Zero S purifiers. I am staggered to now learn the genuine Winix carbon filters have an optimal lifespan of just 3 months. Not 12 months as described by the manufacturer. It also states 12 months on the front of the genuine replacement filter box but 3 months on the back of the filter box. You can’t buy the carbon filters separately, thus rendering the air purifier partially ineffective after 3 months unless you replace both filters at huge cost.

This air purifier relieved so many symptoms within my first month of ownership I bought another. I will now run both at lower fan settings in 2 rooms to help remove the normal local heavy pollution which is even worse due to a nearby motorway. Can’t fault this machine for dealing with indoor pollution at all.

My tvoc meter very quickly drops to almost zero when held close to the purifiers clean air output. Something a well known fan purifier without blades could not achieve in hours so I sent that back for a refund and bought my 2nd Winix zero s.

Silent on sleep mode but I also sleep undisturbed with manual fan setting 1 during the night.

A sleep override function would be nice for heavily polluted areas as the fan on sleep mode moves very little air and doesn’t seem to react at all to pollution seeping in from outdoors.

    Happy breathing folks 🙂

I live in London’s suburbs where air pollution isn’t too bad and I leave my living room and kitchen skylights open almost constantly. I was looking for an air filter to help improve the air quality inside my bedroom and to try and reduce the amount of dust which regularly accumulates around the home.

I opted for this larger model – which on paper can filter volumes of air twice that of my flat – so that I could run it at lower speeds (therefore lower wattage) to achieve the same result as smaller units running on higher power, thereby maximising the life of the filters.

After three weeks of use, here are my findings:

    Pros
    – Plug in and forget: the automatic function works really well and uses a light sensor to automatically toggle the night mode (PlasmaWave is switched off and the fan runs almost silently).
    – Silent operation: deserves a pro on its own. You can sleep with it running on night mode and hardly hear the fan spin.
    – Super sensitive sensor: after fluffing up my duvet cover each morning, or after applying deodorant, the unit is quick to ramp up the fan with its blue light switching to amber (and sometimes red).
    – Large carbon pellet filter: works more effectively than cheaper carbon wool filters at removing odours.
    – Long lasting filters: up to 12 months (which I intend on achieving as I regularly hoovering the dust from the filters every two weeks).

    Cons
    – Dust accumulation: the unit might help keep air clean but it won’t reduce the amount of dust ending up on shelves and furniture.
    – PlasmaWave: whilst Winix have implemented this technology to help combat odours and viruses, I think the unit produces such low quantities of this molecule (understandable for a consumer device) that it doesn’t have a real impact: you’re better off opening a window. Professional hydroxyl generators such as Odorox Boss XL3 designed for 100m2 spaces consume 5 times more power and are twice the size.
    – Replacement filters are expensive in comparison to the unit’s price.

Overall, I haven’t noticed any improvement in breathing or sleeping quality (not that I had any issues before). So is it good for your health? No idea. Would I recommend? Maybe. Would I return it? Absolutely not now that I know I am breathing cleaner air.

Does exactly what I need it to. Wouldn’t want to live without it now. I personally leave plasma wave off and it running in medium and high mode.

The sleep mode is silent. It still does the job, but with my dust allergies I prefer to have it on a bit more powerful during the night. So I have it on setting 2 or 3.
Setting 4s sound is not noticeable during the day but at night its probably too loud to sleep with on the full power.
But even with full power, it’s quieter than a floor or ceiling fan.
If you choose automatic setting, which is brilliant, then at night, when you turn your lights off, its sensors pick this up and it goes to sleep mode (the machine doesn’t go to sleep like a computer, it just goes to the lowest setting which is silent, plus the indication lights turn off so there’s no distractions).
The sensors are amazing on this machine.
Red lights is when the air is bad. Then amber which is still bad in my opinion. Then it goes to blue (why not green? Lol traffic lights? Lol) .
Now this is where the machine really shows how good it is.
So your sat in the living room and the machine is on automatic setting, it’s cycled through your dusty room and it’s gone to blue. Pure air. But if you get up and walk into the kitchen, walk past it, open a door, breathe near it lol it senses it straight away and goes to amber and starts purifying again. Because the single bit of dust you’ve created by brushing past or treading in the carpet or opening a door , that dust has made its way to the machine within seconds.
It’s a really clever price of kit.
It’s helping me cut down on the dust in my home.
And aesthetically it’s very pleasing to the eye. It’s a really good looking unit. It looks like you’ve spent a few hundred pounds on it, which you have. And it’s worth every penny.
    I’m very happy with it.
